Day One of the 2025 VOICE Conference is tailored for clinicians, educators, and professionals working with families of children with hearing loss. While the content is designed with professionals in mind, parents and caregivers are welcome to attend. Our international guest speakers will discuss how early and family-centered intervention such as Listening and Spoken Language Auditory-Verbal Therapy/Education (LSL AVT/ED) has transformed the present and future outcomes of children who are deaf and/or hard of hearing in communication, social-emotional wellness, academic and life outcomes around the world. Recognized international and local experts will discuss how practitioners and parents can implement multicultural sensitive practices and multi-lingualism in LSL AVT/ED practice. Poster sessions throughout the day will highlight the latest research from scientists specializing in pediatric hearing loss, including genetic testing and gene therapy. A panel of adolescents and young adults will share their experiences growing up with hearing loss and provide life-changing tips. The day will close with a discussion of the Child Disability Tax Credit and other benefits available to families of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Participants Will:

  • Discuss ways to promote and implement auditory-verbal therapy in a public health system
  • Describe how professionals and parents can champion family-centred practices

Special sessions will dive deeper into how to support school-aged children with hearing loss while continuing family-centred service. Two panel discussions from both parents and adolescents and young adults who are deaf and hard of hearing will provide insight into how to support and advocate for children with hearing loss.
