Hearing Heroes Hangouts
The Teen Hearing Heroes Program is designed to provide a safe, supportive space where teens with hearing loss can connect, share experiences, and build valuable skills. Below, we have outlined key aspects of the program:
Program Overview and Format
- Structure: Sessions are held monthly in a flexible, structured format. They include discussions, activities, and mentorship opportunities.
- Confidentiality: Sessions will not be recorded, and camera use is optional. If group photos are taken, we will seek written permission from parents in advance to share them on VOICE’s social media platforms (@voice4deafkids).
- Facilitators: Meetings will be led by Holly Marini and Kristen Kyone, both of whom are young adults with hearing loss and have undergone Vulnerable Sector/Police checks.
Session Goals
Our primary objectives are to provide teens with:
- A platform to share their experiences and challenges;
- Opportunities to develop self-advocacy and leadership skills; and,
- Access to a network of peers who understand their journey.
